Attention Deficit Disorder is a condition describing children whose level of inattention, impulsiveness and / or hyperactive behaviour interferes with their daily functioning. It is a complex disorder that typically causes difficulties with higher executive functions, such as thinking, planning and working memory. Medications can be used to restore balance amongst the chemicals in the brain, enhancing attention and making the brain more receptive to learning. However, it is recommended that drug treatments be accompanied by non drug interventions, as higher executive functioning does necessarily respond to drug treatment. Essentially, the brain needs to be trained to think and plan in a more efficient manner.
