Capitals Come First is a 10 week program, designed for preschoolers and children up to 8 years old, which:
uses fun, meaningful activities to develop, enhance and nurture the development of essential skills for handwriting
empowers parents to support their child's development of these skills
These skills include:
- upper limb strength and stability - bilateral use of hands
- hand and finger strength - in hand manipulation
- visual motor coordination -attention and concentration
Why do Capitals Come First?
Capitals should be the first letters that a child learns to write, because of their consistency with:
Shape – mainly straight lines and a few curves
Size – less confusion for where to start and finish letter
Stroke
To ensure individualized attention for the participants, the program is run with small groups or individually.
