OT & Epilepsy

Epilepsy can affect a child's cognitive and motor functions in many ways. This may be seen as difficulties with fine or gross motor co-ordination, balance, emotional self-regulation, attention and visual perception (such as puzzles, reversals). Difficulties with the higher executive "thinking" functions mean that these children may have problems with tasks such as remembering how to spell words, times tables, knowing what the math problem means , or thinking and organizing their ideas into a story that makes sense. Doing assignments and time management can be particularly problematic for the older child.

Brainy Blocks Occupational Therapy for Children specializes in the assessment and treatment of children who are experiencing difficulties with learning or co-ordination. The therapists at Brainy Blocks have had specific postgraduate training in the assessment and treatment of the information processing skills for higher executive functioning skills, sensory processing and sensory integration. Our group programs focus on social skills and handwriting readiness. Free screening assessments for preschoolers is a special initiative offered to facilitate earlier identification of children with difficulties.
