Who is Brainy Blocks Occupational Therapy for Children?


About Debbie:

Debbie graduated from the University of Qld with a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy in 1981. She has worked since then almost exclusively in the area of preschool and school-age children, as well as taking a few years off to have her family. Debbie has worked in hospital based, community based and education based settings. She has maintained her ongoing professional education and has achieved accreditation with her professional organisation. She has co-published a research paper on ergonomics and seating in the 2001 National Ergonomics Association journal. She was accepted and co-presented this paper in 2002 at the World Occupational Therapy Conference in Stockholm , Sweden .

She has completed her certification in Sensory Integration and is qualified to administer and interpret the Southern California Sensory Integration Tests. She has completed her Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy with a specialist focus in learning disabilities and coordination disorders. Debbie is enrolled in the mentor program with the Australian Occupational Therapy Association and is a supervisor for James Cook University Occupational Therapy students on fieldwork placement.



About Esther:

Esther graduated with a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (OT) in 2005, from James Cook University . Esther was first involved in Brainy Blocks Occupational Therapy for Children in 2002 as an OT student.

Since graduating, Esther has been focused on raising her young family, which has seen her develop an empathy and understanding of the challenges and demands faced by families and parents today. This role has given Esther first had experience and understanding of child development.

Since her placement with Brainy Blocks in 2002, Esther has continued her involvement with the practice as it grew and developed. This has then led to her establishing the Townsville Branch of Brainy Blocks. Working as a linked Brainy Blocks practice gives Esther the benefit of using 20 years of resources and programs as well as an experienced professional colleague to mentor with on a regular basis.

Esther has also worked in a child advocate position. This has involved talking with children and young people in a variety of settings and raising and reporting on the issues, with a variety of government and non government bodies.
